Who are we?
We are an independent opera company based in Brooklyn that focuses on fostering community through the magic of opera. Kind of wild, right? We are passionate about this art form and believe that, when given the chance, opera has the capacity to unite the communities that experience it. That is why we are your friendly neighborhood Opera Company!
What do we do?
This is the basic idea: Imagine a fully staged production performed right outside your home. Or imagine the façade of your home being used as the staging. The point is we bring this art form to you! We offer an unforgettable experience, where neighbors unite to make the magic happen. Through any of our performances, you get to be part of an incredible occasion.
Why do we do it?
An opera is an amazing and impressive thing to behold! The music, the storytelling, the theatricality all have the potential to inspire. However, the opportunity to experience opera live is often out of reach: both because of cost, and because its perception as high art can make it feel intimidating and exclusive. We want people of all stripes to feel welcome and that opera is theirs to fall in love with.
Where are we?
We are proud to be based on Willoughby Avenue in the beautiful and historic Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. We are even prouder to have done our first production in front of our neighbor’s house on our very block.
